Wish he had some cool stuff on the back of his shirt, or even something like a necklace or a buckle or some kind of pack- the design is a bit 'plain', but the painting and drawing is executed great :)

(And I agree... who says elfs can't grow facial hair? Tolkein isn't god...)

The designs have alot of potential! I like the details alot! I'd say maybe try and be a little bit cleaner with your hatching and refine the line-weight some more (putting a consistently thick line around the silhouette helps it pop.). Also, don't be afraid to use the gimp or Photoshop to organize your sketches... organization in your presentation counts for alot! :D

Good attempt, would recommend more practice.

It's a good start. It's difficult to tackle anatomy when you aren't very well acquainted with it. Most community colleges offer Life drawing sessions for very cheap, and it's one of the best ways to become familiar with the human form (or just form and light in general, for that matter).

The trees and stuff works, and I like the outside cover, but it's definitely clashing with your illustration. I think some well done inking with watercolor styled painting (or preferably real watercolor on Arches watercolor paper or something) would work well with the kind of 'fairy tale' theme that Brackenwood tackles. Keep trying!

First off you are (props given where due) a very good artist.

I know I have problems with this when I review too. But, damn that was condescending.

That said I don't disagree with the critique at all. I know the figure needs more work. I did three of these in a what (for me) was rapid succession. I did them for this NG Girls miniposters.

Yeah the design elements and the painting clash. If I hadn't hit the deadline I'd have worked on it more. Perhaps I'll rework the whole thing now that I have time.
